Marcin Antique & Typewriter Specimens
Brief
Design the type specimen for the latest release by Mario Feliciano of Feliciano Type Foundry, Marcin Antique & Typewriter.
The typeface is a contemporary revival of an early grotesque by the Mayeur type foundry at the turn of the XXth century.
Solution
Like Feliciano’s revival, the specimens are a play on their origin: they’re abstractions of metal type and typewriter balls, brought back to life as new forms.
Reticulation—a photographic technique that now hardly happens in photography in its original form—is also abstracted as a vector form: another appropriation of a past form for graphic impact.
